What is a printing company to do when their long-trusted equipment is discontinued? Adaptive Textiles, a textile printing company that specializes in high-end home interior fabrics, was recently faced with this dilemma.
Since 2004, the company has relied on their DuPont Artistri 2020 printers for on-demand textile printing on cotton and linen materials. But with DuPont printers quickly aging into obsolescence, Adaptive Textiles knew they needed to invest in a new generation of textile printers.
Transitioning from DuPont Artistri Printers
The company’s business model is focused on providing the best service possible — that means ensuring that their clients receive fabrics that have been fully inspected and are of the highest quality. Because of this commitment to their clients and their growing business, Adaptive Textiles needed to take a proactive approach when it came to supplementing their DuPont models.
“We realized that there would soon come a time when we weren’t able to get printheads for these printers anymore,” said Jeanelle Dech, President and Co-founder of Adaptive Textiles.
Recognizing the need to upgrade, Dech sought the help of a consultant who paid close attention to her production needs. The consultant recommended the Mimaki TX300P because of its incredible high-quality and on-demand print capabilities.
The TX300P features a high gap printhead that maintains its high performance even with thick textiles, woven patterns and raised fiber surfaces — a must-have feature for a textile printing company. This Mimaki model also offers five different ink types: sublimation, dispersant, pigment, reactive and acid.
Once Dech settled on a textile printer model, it was time to find a new partner.
Finding a Printer Partner
Dech and her team worked with their consultant to explore partnership opportunities and request quotes from several different companies. After narrowing down their options, Dech interviewed two potential partners and then finally selected ITNH.
“We chose ITNH because of their knowledge and understanding of what we wanted to do,” said Dech. “I felt like I’d have a wonderful partner in Mike [Terlizzi].”
On top of his knowledge, Mike worked quickly and even wrapped up their purchase before the year end so that Adaptive Textiles could receive a tax break for 2018.
Preparing for the Future
Adaptive Textiles will be adding two Mimaki TX300P printers to their new 13,000-square-foot facility in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
“It’s time to make sure we are fully operational and dealing well with the new generation of technology,” Dech said. “Mimaki has the right speed, the right ink and the right ink heads for our shop and we couldn’t be more excited.”
