ITNH Partners Up with Making the Cut for Another Season of Stunning Design

Mimaki TX300P-1800Mkii and Mimaki TS100 fabric printing solutions take contestants’ creativity to new heights

What happens when you combine the insights of seasoned fashion gurus Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, the creative minds of established designers from around the world and the industrial print solutions of ITNH? You get some seriously innovative fashion content via Prime Video’s hit reality TV series, Making the Cut, now back for its third season.

After helping designers bring their vision full circle — from concept planning, to design, to print, to runway ready — in Season 2, Making the Cut knew who to trust for more impeccable inkjet printing solutions in Season 3.

Inkjet fabric printers like those used on Making the Cut offer stunning color and amazing photo-realistic print quality, both of which give designers additional room for creativity. The degree of creativity these printers offer allows for endless opportunities and enables contestants to translate their designs into runway-ready garments.

So, why was it so important to have printers right on set? Digital inkjet printers like those used on the show make the design-to-production process very fast. With no set-up steps required, once a designer creates a digital file of their design, it’s ready to be printed instantly. Within one day, the entire process can be completed, with the finished garments being modeled on the runway.

After a successful season working in tandem with the ITNH team, Making the Cut knew they could trust ITNH’s experience and knowledge in inkjet fabric printing. ITNH has been working to develop inkjet fabric printing solutions for two decades, and they’ve worked closely with Mimaki as they continued to develop printing equipment designed specifically to handle fabric.

To determine the best printers for season 3, ITNH met with the Making the Cut team and focused on finding the equipment that best met their needs and objectives. ITNH was also dedicated to learning about the working environment and the factors that would contribute to hardware decisions.

In order to give the competing designers the most diverse selection of fabrics and fiber types, as well as printers that would perform efficiently on set, the teams decided to go with the Mimaki TX300P-1800mkii and the Mimaki TS100. Designers were able to turn sketches and photo manipulations into eye-catching prints and one-of-a-kind fabrics, adding flair to each completed piece. The cast was also thrilled by how quickly the printer was able to produce vibrant, high-quality prints — an absolute must, given that all design challenges were timed.

With a whole lot of careful planning for delivery and installation, as well as a training crash course on how to use these printers, the designers were empowered to bring their creations to life. Although some of the cast had prior experience with fabric printing, many of the contestants did not. Throughout the entire competition, ITNH and the Mimaki application team were on-hand, ready to answer technical questions and assist designers in using the printer.

The [Mimaki TX300P-1800MKii] really helped bring some of the designs to life,” said Making the Cut producer, Chandler Dewitt. “Because of its success, many of the winning looks featured a custom-printed fabric.

At the end of the day, each client and their printing needs are unique. The ITNH team can leverage their years of experience to help clients find the combination of printer, ink and accessories to meet their space and budget and achieve their desired results.

That’s why ITNH is here to listen to client wish lists and then set proper expectations based on things like printer selection, ink selection, space or budget. Making the Cut really leaned on the ITNH team to provide guidance and set expectations right from the beginning. By setting those appropriate expectations and selecting the right printers, ITNH made a meaningful difference in helping the competing designers put their best work forward.
